Welcome to Siamsin Learning Centre

Siamsin Learning Centre provides quality education to pre-primary and primary students in a safe and nurturing environment. Based in Taman Sri Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, our aim is to help refugees gain the knowledge and skills they need to build a better future for themselves and their families. Our curriculum is taught in English, allowing students to develop their language skills and prepare for the future . Our school has a capacity of 70 students, ensuring small class sizes and personalised attention.

In Malaysia, refugee and asylum-seeking children and youth can only access education through informal community-based learning centres supported by UNHCR and its partners. There are approximately 150 learning centres located across Peninsular Malaysia recognised by UNHCR. Recognition as a community learning centre by UNHCR does not mean they are receiving any financial support from UNHCR. A listing of Primary Learning centres can be found on the UNHCR Malaysia website.

Our Curriculum

At Siamsin Learning Centre, we provide a high-quality English language education to our students. Subjects include English, maths, science, geography, history, art and crafts as well as social studies. Private music tuition is also provided at the centre, including piano, guitar, drums and vocal lessons.

Our Teachers

Our teachers are passionate and committed to providing the best possible education to our students.

Head teacher James, and his wife Elizabeth, have been teaching at the centre for over 10 years, providing an essential service to the local refugee community.

Since 2022, a team of approximately 25 volunteers from a variety of backgrounds and professions have joined James and Elizabeth in an effort to enrich the curriculum.

We are regularly looking for new volunteers to join our teaching team. Teachers are asked to commit to a minimum of one hour of class time as well as 1-2 hours of associated preparation and follow up per week. If you are interested in finding out more information please reach out to us through the contact from below. We would love to hear from you.
